How does face mist fit into my skin care routine?
Face mists and essences are best used after cleansing (and after toning if you include that step in your skincare routine), but before applying serums or moisturizer. This ensures they’ll actually penetrate into your skin and won’t just sit on top of heavier formulas, plus the hydration from the face mist spray allows your skin to better absorb the goodness from any products you apply afterwards.
While face mists and essences won’t have such a beneficial effect when applied on top of makeup, they can still bring back an instant healthy glow to tired or dry skin, or allow you to re-blend and refresh your existing makeup without needing to add so much more that things start to look cakey. So while it’s not the best time of day to use one, you can use a hydrating face mist for an afternoon beauty pick-me-up too.
How often should I apply face mist?
A face mist spray is an excellent addition to any daily skincare routine, and you’ll get the most out of it if you use it twice per day - in the morning and again at night. As we’ve just discussed, there’s also no harm in spritzing a little more on during the day to replenish lost moisture or help revive your makeup if you feel you need it.
What makes for a good quality face mist?
One of the best ingredients you can find in a hydrating face mist is hyaluronic acid. This molecule, naturally found in the skin, is capable of holding onto 1,000 times its own weight in water, meaning it helps your skin to stay super hydrated.
As for other ingredients, it really depends since different face mists and essences are targeted towards different benefits. iS Clinical has an excellent fact mist for oily skin that contains copper PCA to regulate sebum for example, while PCA Skin Daily Defense Mist is packed full of antioxidants to protect your skin from environmental pollutants and stressors.
